Surrey Floods Spark Mass Evacuations as Rain Pummels County
Relentless heavy rain has wreaked havoc across Surrey, forcing dozens from their homes and triggering ongoing rescue efforts since Sunday. Flood response lead Lloyd Hatton of Surrey Fire and Rescue Service revealed that emergency crews have been active in flood hotspots like Egham and Chertsey.
Emergency Rest Centres Opened Amid Rising Waters
Four dedicated rest centres have sprung up to support residents displaced by the floods. Authorities are urging locals to stay safe and avoid driving through floodwaters, which remains a major risk.
30+ Evacuated from Mobile Home Park in Chertsey
Early Monday saw 32 people evacuated from Abbeyfields mobile home park in Thameside, Chertsey. Egham Town councillor Sam Jenkins said water levels appear to be stabilising but warned the flood threat remains “significant” for many Runnymede properties.
River Thames Flood Warnings Scatter Across Surrey
The flooding stems from rising River Thames levels after weeks of heavy rain. Nearly the entire Surrey stretch of the river — including Chertsey, Walton, Sunbury, Molesey, and Egham — is under flood warnings issued by the Environment Agency.
The agency compares the situation to the severe 2013 floods, though officials say current levels are unlikely to match the devastating 2014 surge.
As of Tuesday morning, 17 flood warnings were still in place, highlighting the continued threat. Emergency teams remain on high alert, battling to contain flood damage and help those trapped by rising waters in this soaked corner of Surrey.
