£150 Million Boost for British Army’s Battlefield Muscle

The British Army is gearing up to dominate the battlefield with a massive £150 million contract for state-of-the-art military bridges. This deal, sealed with Stockport-based KNDS UK (a joint venture of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Nexter), will deliver next-gen Dry Support Bridges and secure 300 UK jobs.

Bridges Stretching 46 Metres to Carry Future Tanks

These colossal bridges stretch up to 46 metres – the length of five double-decker buses – and can carry the weight of the Army’s new Challenger 3 tank. Designed to span wet and dry gaps, they’ll be vital for safe troop and gear movement, resupply missions, and even disaster relief.

Modern Tech Replaces Outdated Systems, Syncs with NATO Allies

The new bridges replace the aging BR90 ABLE system and will seamlessly link up with NATO partners’ equipment, making joint missions smoother. Defence Procurement Minister James Cartlidge hailed the move as a “significant leap” in military capability while boosting jobs in Stockport.

Cutting-Edge Bridges Mounted on Ranger Trucks

Part of Project TYRO, these bridges will be mounted on Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicle (RMMV) HX2 tactical trucks, creating one of the world’s fastest, smartest deployable bridge systems. This project aims to supercharge Armoured Brigade Combat Teams across all terrains.

Mark Bunyan, FIMS Portfolio Lead: “Project TYRO GSB will give the UK a game-changing operational edge.”

Col Adam Foley, Military Engineering Lead: “This collaboration with industry and NATO partners meets both current and future bridging needs.”

Ian Anderton, KNDS UK MD: “We’re proud the British Army is joining hundreds of global users of our proven Dry Support Bridge, built right here in the UK.”
