Six Green Apprenticeships Get Royal Coronation Stamp
Six top green apprenticeships have been hand-picked to wear the Coronation emblem, celebrating their role in building a sustainable future. The Department for Education unveiled the move on 4 May 2023, tying the new badge to His Majesty The King’s Coronation.
Gold-Standard Green Skills for Net Zero Economy
The crowned apprenticeships spotlight career paths that drive the UK’s transition to net zero. From Low Carbon Heating Technician to Sustainability Business Specialist, these roles equip workers with vital green skills to build a low carbon economy.
The official Coronation emblem will boost awareness of these apprenticeships, encouraging more Brits to jump into exciting green industries while fuelling economic growth — a key priority for the Prime Minister.

Education Secretary Gillian Keegan: “As we work towards our net zero goals, it has never been more important to prioritise green skills and protect our natural environment. These gold-standard apprenticeships honour The King’s Coronation and offer new career chances in industries from forestry to construction.”
The six apprenticeships chosen are:
- Countryside Worker (Level 2)
- Forest Craftsperson (Level 3)
- Low Carbon Heating Technician (Level 3)
- Installation and Maintenance Electrician (Level 3)
- Sustainability Business Specialist (Level 7)
- Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Practitioner (Level 4)
Experts Praise Move to Put Environment at Apprenticeship Heart
Designed by employers with the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE), these programmes reflect a commitment to preserving natural assets and embedding sustainability in every sector.
Jennifer Coupland, Chief Executive of IfATE: “These apprenticeships set the gold standard for green skills. They pave the way for hundreds more. Tackling climate change starts with training the right people, and we urge more employers and students to get involved.”
The green apprenticeship list started with 200 options identified by IfATE’s expert green skills panel. This joint effort includes the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero along with the Department for Education, ensuring the UK has the skills to drive the green revolution.
Royal Parks Hosts Green Apprentices to Mark Launch
To celebrate, Education Secretary Keegan visited Richmond Park to meet apprentices already thriving in these six green roles.
Andrew Scattergood, CEO of The Royal Parks: “We were delighted to welcome the Secretary of State and apprentices to Richmond Park. Developing green skills and creating access to these opportunities has never been more crucial.”
