Driver Fined £200 and Receives 6 Points for Using Mobile Phone While Driving on M25 – UKNIP

A shocking video has surfaced capturing a woman using her mobile phone while driving on the M25 at approximately 60mph.

The footage, shared on ‘X’ by Surrey RoadSafe, a collaborative initiative involving Surrey Police and Surrey County Council aimed at reducing road fatalities and severe injuries, depicts the woman steering with one hand while holding a phone in the other.

According to Surrey RoadSafe, the incident occurred on the M25, where the woman was recorded engaging with her phone while travelling at high speed. Upon being stopped by authorities, she claimed to be using Maps on her phone.

However, Surrey RoadSafe clarified that this justification does not absolve the driver from committing the offence, stating, “This is not a defence, if you hold your phone & the screen is illuminated you have committed the offence.

As a consequence of her actions, the driver received a £200 fine and six points on her license.

Using a mobile phone, sat nav, tablet, or any data-transmitting device while driving or riding a motorcycle is prohibited by official government guidelines, whether connected to the internet or not. Activities such as texting, making calls, taking photos or videos, and web browsing are strictly forbidden.

Exceptions to these rules include making an emergency call to 999 or 112 when stopping is unsafe or impractical, safely parked, conducting a contactless payment while the vehicle is stationary, or using the device for remote vehicle parking.

Hands-free usage of devices is permitted, provided they are not held during use, such as through a Bluetooth headset, voice command, dashboard holder, windscreen mount, or built-in sat nav. However, it is crucial that the device does not obstruct the driver’s view of the road and traffic ahead.

In their social media post, Surrey RoadSafe emphasized the importance of adhering to these regulations, stating, “Driver seen & recorded by #VanguardRST using her phone whilst driving on the M25 at approx 60mph. Issued a TOR – 6 points, £200.”
