Man Found Guilty of Murdering Rugby Player Outside Cornwall Nightclub
A brutal killing outside a Bodmin nightclub has ended in a guilty verdict. Jake Hill, 25, was convicted of fatally stabbing rugby player Michael Riddiough-Allen, 32, during a violent brawl on April 30, 2023.
Chaos Erupts Outside Eclipse Nightclub
The tragedy unfolded after a fight broke out at the Eclipse Nightclub. Hill, armed with a hunting knife, attacked several people, including the unarmed Michael, who was trying to break up the fight. Michael died from a fatal stomach wound sustained in the fracas.
Hill was later found hiding in the loft of co-defendant Tia Taylor’s home, only to fall through the hatch during a police raid. Taylor, 22, initially denied charges but ultimately pleaded guilty to manslaughter and perverting the course of justice. Chelsea Powell, 22, was cleared of murder and manslaughter but found guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Families Speak Out Amid Growing Knife Crime Crisis
Michael’s family expressed deep grief and highlighted the alarming rise in knife crime across the UK. They stressed: “No one wins in cases like this. Every family involved has been shattered.”
The family has launched a trust to tackle knife crime, calling for greater education and community cooperation to stop the violence at its roots.
Closing Remarks and Upcoming Sentencing
Detective Constable Emma Norrish of Devon and Cornwall Police urged the verdict to bring some closure to Michael’s loved ones. Sentencing for Hill, Taylor, and Powell is set for April 12.
This shocking case underlines the devastating toll knife crime takes on communities and reinforces the urgent need for action to prevent future tragedies.
