Tear Gas Panic at Lewisham Police Station
Chaos erupted at Lewisham Police Station after several staff, including a police officer, fell ill from exposure to a suspected tear gas substance. The emergency unfolded on March 16, sparking a swift response.
Custody Suite Hit by Suspected CS Gas
Early that day, an officer and two staff members needed medical treatment after feeling unwell while handling three detainees. These suspects were believed to have been sprayed with a chemical—likely a form of CS gas—during an aggravated burglary on Wricklemarsh Road, Blackheath.
The police custody suite was immediately shut down as a safety precaution.
More Staff Fall Ill Hours Later
The drama didn’t end there. Around 6:30 pm, five more staff members reported the same symptoms, intensifying concerns. All detainees were quickly moved to other police stations across South London to prevent further exposure.
