Devizes Shock: Man Dies After Suspected Assault

Tragedy struck Devizes as Wayne Sheppard, 44, was rushed to hospital Saturday night following a suspected assault. The father and son from Waiblingen Way sadly passed away this morning (8 July) at Great Western Hospital.

Family Pays Heartbreaking Tribute

Wayne’s family is devastated. They said in a statement: “Our dear son Wayne passed away peacefully on 8th July 2022. He was a wonderful son and father, always upbeat and ready to help others. He will be deeply missed.” A specialist family liaison officer is supporting them through this difficult time.

Man Charged and Remanded in Murder Probe

Darren Fell, 39, of Hewitt Court, New Park Court, has been charged with Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent. He appeared at Salisbury Magistrates Court earlier this week and has been remanded in custody ahead of his next hearing on 5 August at Salisbury Crown Court.

The Brunel Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) has launched a full murder investigation into Wayne’s death.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker said:

“My heartfelt condolences go to Wayne’s family during this heartbreaking time. I understand this news will shake the close-knit Devizes community. Please be reassured there is no wider public risk. A man has been charged, and we’re working closely with the CPS.”

He added: “We urge anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious around Hewitt Court, New Park Street, on Saturday evening to come forward. Dash cam, CCTV, or doorbell footage could be invaluable.”
