A shocking incident unfolded outside the Nottingham Contemporary art gallery when two teenagers, Jordan Bazuna and Jack Bolton, brandished machetes during a violent confrontation. The altercation, which erupted between two groups, sent shockwaves through the city centre
On Wednesday, January 31, around 12:30pm police were urgently summoned to Weekday Cross, Nottingham. Witnesses reported a chaotic scene as a number of youths wielded knives in a menacing display of aggression. The incident unfolded just outside the art gallery, leaving bystanders stunned.
Detectives swiftly reviewed CCTV footage, identifying Bazuna and Bolton as the culprits. Their reckless actions were captured on camera as they waved machetes and exchanged threats. Although no injuries were reported, the potential for serious harm was evident.
In a decisive legal outcome, Jordan Bazuna, aged 19, faced justice at Nottingham Crown Court. He was sentenced to 16 months in a youth offender institution. His accomplice, Jack Bolton, 18, received a harsher sentence of 18 months behind bars.
Recorder David Bedenham presided over the case and expressed his concern. He described the incident as “petrifying and shocking” for any witness and emphasised the potential for further disorder.
Detective Inspector Chris Berryman of Nottinghamshire Police condemned the appalling act. He stated, “Knives being wielded in such a reckless fashion on our streets is revolting.” Despite the absence of injuries, Bazuna and Bolton’s actions were a grave threat to public safety. Berryman praised the police response, which involved public appeals, meticulous detective work, and swift arrests.
