South Yorkshire Police have confirmed that they are currently reviewing footage after a disturbing incident unfolded during Thursday’s coverage of the World Snooker Championship at The Crucible in Sheffield.
The incident, which has since gone viral on social media, occurred during a break in play while seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry was speaking on BBC’s live broadcast. Viewers noticed a man, whose relation to the young boy is unknown, whispering in the child’s ear before bizarrely biting his ear.
Despite the shocking nature of the incident, the boy appeared unfazed, even smiling and waving towards the camera once he realized he was on live television.
Upon receiving a call about the circulating video, South Yorkshire Police issued a statement confirming their awareness of the footage and intention to review its content. Similarly, a spokesperson for the World Snooker Tour addressed the incident, acknowledging its severity and indicating that it is now a police matter.
The video quickly gained traction on social media, with one user expressing disbelief, writing, “What the f*** did I just see?!” The clip garnered over 12 million views and 58,000 likes within hours, sparking outrage and concern among viewers.
