Exeter Man Jailed for Brutal Axminster Attack

Friday Ugurou, 50, formerly of Exeter, has been locked up for nine-and-a-half years at Exeter Crown Court. He viciously attacked a woman in Axminster, attempting to rape her upstairs before being interrupted.

Attack Cut Short, But Trauma Left Behind

During the trial, it emerged Ugurou stopped the assault when disturbed and begged the victim not to speak out. Despite being arrested and questioned, he fled the county while the investigation was ongoing, causing lasting distress to his victim.

His desperate claims of being framed were flatly rejected by the jury.

Police Praise Victim’s Bravery

“I welcome the result and I am grateful for the courage and resilience shown by the victim and witnesses in this case,” said DC Jonathan Stephens from the Local Safeguarding Investigation Team.

“I hope this case reassures the community how seriously the police take reports of child sexual offences and encourages others to come forward.”
