The action kicks off at 10:34 p.m. EDT on Monday, May 6. From Cape Canaveral’s Space Launch Complex-41, the United Launch Alliance’s Atlas V rocket will blast the Starliner into orbit, marking a key moment for commercial space travel.
Putting the Starliner Through Its Paces
This isn’t just any flight—Boeing’s Crew Flight 1 is a vital test to certify Starliner for future ISS missions under NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. Wilmore and Williams will spend roughly a week aboard the spacecraft, rigorously testing every system to ensure it’s mission-ready.
Automatic Docking at the ISS
If all goes to plan, the Starliner will autonomously dock at the forward-facing port of the ISS’s Harmony module at 12:48 a.m. on May 8. This critical manoeuvre proves the spacecraft can safely hook up with the station, paving the way for regular crew rotations.
