Human Remains Found in Mitcham Identified as Sarah Mayhew
Detectives have confirmed the grim discovery in Mitcham yesterday afternoon is believed to be Sarah Mayhew. Police were called at 2.18pm on Tuesday, 21 May, after contractors cleaning a river on Rawnsley Avenue found human remains.
Crime Scene Established, Family Informed
Officers quickly secured the area as a crime scene and informed Sarah’s family of the devastating news. The 38-year-old, who lived in Croydon, is now at the centre of a murder investigation.
Two Arrested Over Sarah’s Death
Detective Inspector Martin Thorpe, leading the case, said, “My thoughts remain with Sarah’s family. We will continue to provide our support as our investigation progresses.” He added officers would stay in the area to carry out vital work.
Two people known to Sarah have been arrested and charged with her murder. Police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with her death.
Investigation Underway After Earlier Tip-Off
The probe began after a call to police on 2 April, reporting possible human remains found at Rowdown Fields in Croydon. Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1656/02Apr.
