Thousands of Pounds of Illicit Vapes and Tobacco Seized in Multi-Agency Operation

A significant haul of illicit vapes and tobacco worth thousands of pounds was seized from a Swindon store this week following a coordinated multi-agency operation.

On Wednesday, May 22, officers from Swindon Central South NPT, supported by other neighbourhood officers and partners from Immigration and Trading Standards, conducted a raid on the retail premises Zabka Polski Sklep on Manchester Road.

The operation led to the seizure of illicit vapes and tobacco with an estimated resale value exceeding £30,000. The authorities also impounded a vehicle linked to the illegal activities.

Two individuals were arrested during the operation and have since been bailed pending further enquiries.

A closure order has been secured for the premises, ensuring it remains shut for at least three months.

T/Insp Winter stated: “The sale of such products brings anti-social behaviour and crime to the area. We know that the products themselves are unchecked, often containing harmful materials and chemicals, posing a risk to the health of those using them.

“Such vapes are often used in the exploitation of children, and as such, we want to clamp down on this type of illicit trading. There is also the wider economic impact on local retailers who are working within the confines of the law.”

The operation was part of the Clear Hold Build initiative in Broadgreen, a multi-agency effort aimed at tackling organised crime and building a stronger community.

This successful raid underscores the commitment of Wiltshire Police and their partners to combat illegal trading and its associated issues, safeguarding public health and supporting law-abiding businesses in the community.
