Surrey Cop Pulled From Frontline After Police Car Rams Cow Twice
Surrey Police have taken a cop off frontline duties after footage emerged of an officer deliberately driving a police car into a cow in Staines-upon-Thames. The shocking incident, caught on camera Friday evening, has sparked outrage online.
Video Shows Officer Hit Cow Twice
The viral clip shows the police vehicle smashing into a 10-month-old heifer, named Beau Lucy, not once but twice. The cow, owned by a local farmer, was left trembling but with no broken bones. However, she remains at risk of fatal shock while recovering in a barn alongside other calves.
The farmer’s partner, Kate, slammed the officer’s actions as “disgusting” and demanded he “lose his job” over the reckless behaviour.
Top Brass and Home Secretary Demand Answers
Deputy Chief Constable Nev Kemp said, “I fully appreciate the distress our handling of this incident has caused and will ensure it is thoroughly investigated. The officer driving the car has been removed from frontline duties pending this.”
Home Secretary James Cleverly blasted the move on social media. “I can think of no reasonable need for this action,” he tweeted. “I’ve asked for a full, urgent explanation. It appears unnecessarily heavy handed.”
RSPCA and Chris Packham Join Calls for Accountability
The RSPCA described the footage as “upsetting and distressing” and confirmed they contacted police immediately. They stressed that “all animals should be treated with respect.” Conservationist Chris Packham also slammed the incident on X, saying, “What sort of monster rams a calf? Twice? This must be investigated and prosecuted.”
Investigation Underway as Police Seek More Evidence
Surrey Police say officers first tried to contain the loose cow over several hours before deciding that using the police car to stop it was necessary. The case has been referred to the police professional standards department and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Chief Inspector Sam Adcock thanked the public for their concern and promised a full investigation. Police have asked anyone with footage of the distressing incident to come forward and assist with inquiries.
