Attacker with Crossbow Shot and Killed in “Terrorist Attack Against Serbia”

In a shocking incident, an attacker armed with a crossbow targeted a police officer guarding the Israeli embassy in Belgrade. The assailant fired an arrow at the officer, hitting him in the neck, before being shot and killed by the officer.

The Incident

Authorities are still determining the identity of the attacker. Dacic labelled the incident a “terrorist attack against Serbia,” emphasising the need to explore possible motives. A person was arrested near the scene, and police are investigating potential ties to foreign terrorist groups. Notably, there are indications that the individuals involved may already be known to security services.

Officer’s Condition

The injured officer was conscious when transported to Belgrade’s main hospital. He underwent surgery to remove the arrow from his neck and is currently in stable condition.

Embassy Security

The Israeli embassy, situated near the United States embassy in an upscale district, is guarded by an elite police unit armed with automatic weapons. Israel-linked institutions worldwide have been on high alert since Israel invaded Gaza.

Israeli Foreign Ministry’s Statement

The Israeli foreign ministry confirmed that the embassy in Belgrade remains closed, and no embassy employees were injured. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

Presidential Response

Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic visited the wounded officer, vowing a comprehensive crackdown on terrorism. “We will have no mercy for terrorism in Serbia,” he declared.

Condemnation and Assurance

Prime Minister Milos Vucevic strongly condemned the attack, emphasising that it was an act of an individual and not representative of any religion or nation. He assured Serbian citizens that their safety remains a priority.
