Captain Sir Tom Moore’s Daughter and Son-in-Law Disqualified as Charity Trustees

In a recent development, Hannah Ingram-Moore and her husband Colin, the daughter and son-in-law of the late Captain Sir Tom Moore, have been disqualified from being charity trustees by the Charity Commission. The couple founded the Captain Tom Moore Foundation in June 2020, following Sir Tom’s remarkable fundraising efforts during the COVID pandemic, where he captured the hearts of millions by doing sponsored laps in his garden.

The Charity Commission initiated an investigation into the foundation shortly after Sir Tom’s passing in 2021, and subsequently launched an inquiry in June 2022. The inquiry focused on concerns about the foundation’s management and its independence from the family.

In a statement, the Ingram-Moore family expressed their strong disagreement with the Commission’s decision to disqualify them. They highlighted that the orders of disqualification did not accuse them of misappropriating or receiving unauthorized payments from the charity’s funds, including public donations. The family emphasized that independent trustees had maintained full control over the foundation’s finances since its inception.

However, despite their objections, the family made the difficult choice not to pursue an appeal.
