Three brothers have been hit with charges over the shocking stabbing of a mother attending the Notting Hill Carnival with her young child. The horrifying attack took place on family day, Sunday, August 25, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Attack and Arrests
Shakiel Thibou, 20, from Masbro Road near Holland Park, was charged on August 28 with attempted murder, violent disorder, and possession of an offensive weapon. He was arrested the day before in Hammersmith and Fulham following an intensive police probe.
His brothers Sheldon, 24, of Star Road, Fulham, faces violent disorder charges, possession of a stun gun, and assault on an emergency worker. The youngest brother, Shaeim, 22, of Charleville Road, was charged with violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker.
Stabbing at Carnival Casts a Dark Shadow
The stabbing happened on Golborne Road, near Westbourne Park, right in the heart of London’s famed Notting Hill Carnival. Police officers and medics on site rushed to treat the victim before paramedics took over. The woman remains in critical condition in hospital.
The brothers appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court and were remanded in custody pending further investigation.

“She came to Carnival to have fun, with her young child, and was caught up in the most awful violence,” said Charmain Brenyah, spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police at Notting Hill Carnival.
This stabbing was one of eight reported across the carnival’s two days. On Sunday alone, three people were stabbed, including the mother victim; two endured non-life-threatening injuries. The following day saw five more stabbing or slashing incidents, with some victims initially in life-threatening conditions.
The violent flare-ups have sullied what is traditionally a vibrant, joyous celebration of Caribbean culture. The Met Police continue to investigate the disturbing events.
