Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses and information as they investigate the tragic murder of 38-year-old Jade Anthony Barnett, a disabled man who was fatally stabbed in Clapton last week.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 28, at approximately 3:40 p.m. on Rushmore Road, E5. Jade, who was on his mobility scooter at the time, was attacked in broad daylight. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Clarke from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, who is leading the investigation, has reassured the local community that significant progress is being made in the search for Jade’s killer. However, he emphasized the ongoing need for public assistance.
“I want to reassure the local community that my team of experienced detectives is making good progress as we piece together the events that led to Jade’s murder and work to identify whoever is responsible,” said DCI Clarke. “But we still need your help. Jade was stabbed in the street during the middle of the day. I know there are people who have yet to come forward to police for whatever reason who will have seen what happened or taken pictures or video as events unfolded.”
DCI Clarke urged anyone with images or footage of the incident to come forward and contribute to the investigation. A dedicated online portal has been established where the public can upload any relevant materials anonymously if preferred.
Two men, aged 28 and 21, who were initially arrested on suspicion of murder, have since been released with no further action. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to establish the motive behind the attack and identify those responsible.
Jade’s family is being supported by specially trained officers as they cope with the loss of their loved one. They are being kept informed of any developments in the investigation.
The Met Police continue to encourage anyone with information to reach out, either by calling 101 or messaging @MetCC on X, quoting reference CAD 4793/28AUG. Additionally, those with doorbell footage or other visual evidence are asked to submit it via the dedicated portal at https:///mipp.police.uk/operation/01MPS24W88-PO1.
For those who wish to remain anonymous, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or visiting crimestoppers-uk.org.
As the investigation continues, the community’s cooperation is vital in bringing justice to Jade Barnett and ensuring the safety of the neighborhood.
