Man Arrested in Connection with Disappearance and Suspected Death of Edinburgh Mother Khasha Smith

A man has been arrested in connection with the disappearance and suspected death of Khasha Smith, a 35-year-old mother of three from Calder, Edinburgh, who was last seen nearly a year ago.

The 39-year-old suspect was detained by detectives investigating the case, which began when Khasha was reported missing by her family on 5 January 2024. She was last seen on a FaceTime call with a friend on 10 October 2023.

Specialist officers launched a search in an area off Calder Road on Wednesday following extensive inquiries. While Khasha’s body has not been found, police now believe she is dead.

Detective Chief Inspector Bob Williamson, from Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, expressed his condolences to Khasha’s family, stating: “Our thoughts are very much with Khasha’s family at this extremely difficult time, and they continue to be supported by specialist officers. They are understandably devastated, and it is vital we get answers for them.”

DCI Williamson also urged anyone with information regarding Khasha’s disappearance to contact the police: “Any piece of information, no matter how small or insignificant, could prove vital, so please get in touch.”

The investigation into Khasha Smith’s disappearance continues, with police working tirelessly to uncover the circumstances of her death and provide answers to her grieving family.

Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact Police Scotland immediately.
