West Midlands Police to Host Youth Football Tournament

West Midlands Police is set to host a community football tournament for young people across the region on Saturday, October 5, 2024. The event, which will take place at the police training centre, Tally Ho!, aims to foster positive relationships between local youth and law enforcement officers.

The seven-a-side tournament will feature teams of players aged 12 to 17 of all skill levels. In addition to competing for trophies and medals, participants will have the opportunity to engage with police officers and staff from various departments in a friendly and supportive environment.

The event will not only focus on football but will also showcase different aspects of policing, with activities such as drone demonstrations and police dog units. Attendees will be able to interact with officers and gain a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement operations.

This tournament is part of West Midlands Police’s Black History Month celebrations, and representatives from the force’s Museum and the Black and Asian Police Association will be present to engage with participants and spectators.

Inspector Jemma Connor-Iommi, the event organiser, stressed the importance of building positive relationships with young people, saying: “We want to develop good relationships with young people so they feel supported and confident to speak to police as they get older.

The tournament will run from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and interested teams and individuals are encouraged to register by Friday, September 27, 2024. For more information, please contact Inspector Connor-Iommi at [email protected].
