Portsmouth police were called to multiple locations across Hampshire last night following a large car meet that attracted significant attention and led to a series of driving offences. Footage from Southsea Seafront captured the chaotic scenes as car enthusiasts gathered in droves.
Officers responded quickly to reports of illegal driving behaviour, with participants engaging in reckless and dangerous activities on public roads. The event, which attracted hundreds of car enthusiasts, resulted in multiple driving violations, including speeding, dangerous driving, and noise-related disturbances.
Police monitored the gathering both on the ground and from the air, deploying drones to capture comprehensive footage of the unlawful activities. This evidence will be used to assist in ongoing investigations.
A police spokesperson commented, “While we understand that many car enthusiasts want to enjoy their hobby, the safety of the public is our primary concern. Unfortunately, a number of individuals engaged in behaviour that put themselves and others at risk.”

The spokesperson also confirmed that notices of intended prosecution (NIPs) will be issued to those found committing offences. “We have sufficient evidence of driving offences and antisocial behaviour from last night’s car meet. NIPs will be issued to those responsible, and we will continue to investigate and take action as necessary.”
This is not the first time police have had to respond to car meets in the area, where such gatherings often draw drivers engaging in illegal activities. The police emphasized that while car meets themselves are not illegal, participants must adhere to the law and respect public safety.
Local residents in Portsmouth expressed concerns about the disruption caused by last night’s meet, citing noise and dangerous driving as major issues. One resident remarked, “These car meets can get out of hand, and it’s worrying for us who live nearby. The noise goes on for hours, and the way some people drive is just dangerous.”
Authorities have made it clear they will continue to monitor similar events and take swift action against those violating traffic laws. Police are urging participants of future car meets to comply with road laws and avoid endangering the public. Drone surveillance and ground monitoring will be used to ensure that illegal activities are captured and dealt with effectively.
The investigation into last night’s meet remains ongoing, and the police are encouraging witnesses or anyone with additional information to come forward.
