Suspect Charged After Disturbance Involving Axe in Folkestone Town Centre

A man has been charged following a reported disturbance involving an axe in Folkestone town centre on Friday, 20 September 2024.

Kent Police responded to a call at 11:53 p.m. reporting that a man armed with an axe was outside a premises on Tontine Street. It is alleged that the man threatened individuals known to him after an earlier altercation before fleeing the scene.

Officers arrived shortly after, and initial enquiries led to the arrest of a suspect nearby. During the arrest, police recovered an axe and a quantity of cannabis.

On Sunday, 22 September, James Brown, 39, of Warren Close, was charged with possession of a bladed or sharply pointed article, possession of a Class B drug, and a public order offence.

Mr. Brown appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court the following day, where he was granted bail. He is due to appear at Canterbury Crown Court at a later date for further proceedings.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
