Two held on bail after fatal stabbing in Canterbury city centre

Stabbing Shakes Canterbury High Street

Two people have been released on bail following a deadly stabbing in Canterbury city centre on Thursday night. Police were called to a disturbance on High Street near St Margaret’s Street at 11:31pm. Emergency crews found a 23-year-old man with fatal stab wounds. He was declared dead at the scene.

Four Arrested, Two Remain in Custody

Four men in their 20s were arrested in connection with the stabbing. Two suspects are still in police custody, while the other two have been bailed until January 9 and 10 for further questioning.

Massive Police Operation Underway

Forensic teams have conducted searches at properties in Herne Bay High Street and near Pine Tree Avenue, Canterbury. A large police cordon has blocked off much of the city centre, stretching from St Margaret’s Street to the High Street, and from Guildhall Street to Stour Street. The lockdown has disrupted local businesses and foot traffic, with private ambulance crews attending the scene through Friday morning.

Community Shock and Police Appeal

“We understand that this incident and its location will have caused concern in the community,” said Canterbury District Commander Chief Inspector Paul Stoner. “We have a large team of officers and detectives working to establish the full circumstances.”

Local traders voiced their shock at the sudden crime scene near their businesses.
