For the past 16 years, Defib the cat has been a cherished member of the Walthamstow ambulance station, where he has lived happily and been adored by the London Ambulance Service (LAS) staff. However, a recent change in local management has placed Defib under threat of eviction, sparking a heartfelt campaign to save the beloved feline.
Defib, who was rescued as a kitten by the staff, has provided comfort and companionship to the team for over a decade. Now, as he enters his senior years, the staff believe that rehoming him would be an unnecessary and cruel disruption to his life. They argue that evicting such an elderly cat, who is deeply connected to his home, is unjustifiable—particularly in light of the growing acceptance and popularity of therapy animals in workplaces.
The “Save Defib the Cat” campaign, with the support of the public, is asking the London Ambulance Service to reconsider its decision and allow Defib to live out his remaining years in the place he has always known and loved. The staff believe that Defib has become a symbol of community and comfort at the station, and they are appealing to LAS to let him stay.
Supporters can follow the campaign and lend their voices by contacting the team at defib@savedefib.
Defib’s loyal caregivers are hopeful that with public backing, they can secure his future and ensure that he continues to receive the love and care he has known throughout his life.
