Police Appeal After Elderly Man Assaulted in Newark Market Square

Police investigating an assault on a man in Newark have released images of someone they’d like to speak to.
The unknown individual then reportedly turned around, pushed the victim over and aimed a kick at his head, before pushing another bystander too.

The victim sustained injuries to his arm during the incident, which took place around 3.40pm on Friday (25 October).

Police are now trying to trace the man on the bike, who was wearing a black and grey hoodie with the hood up, as well as a balaclava.

The man was accompanied by another balaclava-wearing man in a dark grey tracksuit with the hood up at the time of the incident.

An investigation has been launched into the assault, with police now releasing photos taken from the scene.

Sergeant Greg Saxelby, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“The level of aggression shown in this incident was completely unacceptable and simply won’t be tolerated here in Newark and Sherwood.

“The only positive to be taken from this was that the victim wasn’t seriously injured, after reportedly being pushed over and then having a kick aimed at his head.

“We want to find whoever was responsible for this assault and hope us sharing these pictures as part of our appeal will help us to do this.

“If you recognise the person in these images, we’d ask that you contact us. Likewise, if this is you, please do the right thing and come forward, so that we can find out more about what happened.

“Information can be reported to the police by calling 101, quoting incident 440 of 25 October 2024, or can be left with Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111.”
