Emergency services were called on Mitcham Lane, uk/where/london-places/">London after a fire broke out in a suspected poorly maintained ventilation system.

The property owner reported the incident, and raised the alarm, prompting the dispatch of three fire engines and a command unit.

The London Fire Brigade arrived at the scene, with firefighters working to contain the flames in the multi-storey property that due to the swift response were contained to the kitchen area.

Road closures have been implemented around Mitcham Lane, and local transport services are operating on revised routes to accommodate the emergency response. The traffic is being controlled by officers from the Met Police.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a fire at a mid-terraced shop and dwellings on Mitcham Lane in Tooting.
The ducting from ground floor to roof level was destroyed and a small part of the first floor roof was damaged by the fire. Five people left the building before the Brigade arrived. There are currently no reports of any injuries.
Control Officers took the first of 10 calls at 2.01pm and mobilised crews from Tooting, Mitcham, norbury/">Norbury and Brixton fire stations to the scene. The fire was extinguished by 3.09pm
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
