An electricity transformer requiring a police escort due to its extraordinary size and weight will travel through Essex, Kent, and Surrey tomorrow evening (Saturday, November 16).
The load, which measures 5.5 meters in width and weighs a total of approximately 437 tonnes when combined with its transport, will commence its journey from Tilbury Dock in Essex at around 6 PM. The convoy will be accompanied by police to ensure public safety and manage traffic along its route.
Planned Route and Timing
The transformer will travel southbound over the Dartford Crossing via the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge before proceeding along the following route:
- M25: Southbound to Junction 3
- M20 and A20: Heading east before joining the M26 westbound
- M25: Rejoining westbound
- Junction 11 exit: Taking the A320 to the Six Cross Roads Roundabout (navigating the roundabout in reverse)
- A245: Towards Weybridge
- A318 southbound: To its final destination
The journey is expected to conclude by 1 AM on Sunday, November 17.
Anticipated Disruption
Police have advised that temporary localised traffic disruption may occur along the route during the evening. Motorists travelling in the affected areas are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra time for their journeys, and remain patient while the abnormal load passes.
