Emergency services were called to Bethel Green Road in East London this evening after a scaffolding tower unexpectedly collapsed, narrowly avoiding a group of women and children, including those with buggies.

Eyewitnesses described the terrifying moment the structure came down, with some claiming it happened just seconds after the group passed the area. “It could have been a disaster,” said one bystander. “Buses and people were moving through the area just moments before it all came crashing down.”
Police quickly cordoned off the scene and contacted workers from Mooreway Scaffolding to assess the damage. Concerned workers attempted to secure the remaining unstable structure, with safety precautions being prioritized to prevent further incidents.
While most of the area’s focus was on the potential tragedy averted, some passersby found a moment of levity amid the chaos. “A couple of the workers were more upset about missing their Nando’s mayo than the situation at hand,” quipped another bystander, referring to an urgent takeaway order interrupted by the incident.
