A teenager from Swindon has been sentenced after causing serious injuries to a Wiltshire Police officer during a collision involving an electric motorcycle.

Thierry Holness, 18, of Morris Street, Swindon, was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court after earlier pleading guilty to a charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The incident occurred on 13 January 2024 when Holness, then 17 years old, was riding an electric motorcycle in an unsafe manner.
Police officers, stationed in a marked vehicle at the junction of Faringdon Road and Westcott Place in Swindon around 11:20 p.m., noticed Holness riding recklessly. When one officer exited the car to engage with him, Holness collided with the officer, causing serious injuries that required hospital treatment and a lengthy recovery.
Court Sentence
The court handed Holness a two-year custodial sentence, suspended for two years. Additionally, he was ordered to:
- Complete 225 hours of unpaid work
- Undertake up to 35 rehabilitation activity days
- Pay a £41 victim surcharge
- Face 30 months disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence and pass an extended competency test before being eligible to drive again.

Chief Constable Catherine Roper of Wiltshire Police condemned Holness’ actions, stating:
Wiltshire Police officers are focused on keeping people safe across the county every day. This was a highly concerning incident in which one of our police officers was injured in the course of his duties. This is absolutely unacceptable.
“I hope that this sentence sends a clear message that we will not tolerate such behaviour and will ensure that anyone responsible faces the full force of the law.”
