Meta has acknowledged a “technical issue” causing disruptions for users of its flagship platforms, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
In a statement posted on the X social media platform, the tech giant said:
“We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience.”
Reports of outages began to surge around 6 pm, according to Downdetector, a website that tracks problems with popular apps and websites. At 6:07 pm, the platform recorded 25,807 reports of Facebook issues in the UK and a staggering 106,401 reports in the US.
Users have taken to social media to express their frustration over the disruptions, which appear to vary in severity, ranging from difficulties accessing accounts to complete service outages.
Meta has not provided a timeline for resolving the issue but assured users that engineers are actively working to restore full functionality. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
