Meta has admitted a major “technical issue” is causing chaos for users of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The social media giant confirmed the disruption in a statement on X, formerly Twitter.
“We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience.”
Thousands Report Problems Across UK and US
The trouble started around 6pm, with the outage monitoring site Downdetector logging a surge in complaints. By 6:07pm, Facebook alone had 25,807 reported issues in the UK and a massive 106,401 in the US.
Users Vent Frustration Online
Across social media, frustrated users flooded platforms with reports of everything from login problems to total service blackouts. The disruptions vary in severity but have hit millions worldwide.
