Ipswich dad sentenced to life for brutal murder of 2-year-old daughter

Life Behind Bars for Little Isabella’s Killer

Scott Jeff, 24, was handed a life sentence with a minimum of 26 years at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday, December 13, 2024. He was found guilty of murdering his two-year-old daughter, Isabella Jonas-Wheildon, in a case that shocked the nation with its sheer cruelty.

Partner Locked Up for Child Cruelty and Neglect

Jeff’s partner, Chelsea Gleason-Mitchell, was jailed for 10 years for allowing Isabella’s tragic death and two counts of child cruelty. Prosecutors painted a grim picture of the couple’s horrific neglect and abuse.

Horrific Abuse Revealed in Court

  • Isabella’s battered body was discovered in a buggy at a temporary home in Ipswich in June 2023.
  • Forensic experts described her injuries – including multiple wrist and pelvis fractures – as the worst seen in 40 years.
  • CCTV and phone records exposed the couple leaving Isabella alone while they went drinking, and cruelly verbally abusing her to tears.
  • Chillingly, just 30 minutes after Isabella’s fatal injuries, the pair were caught on camera joking and acting normally, pushing her lifeless body around in a buggy while shopping and pub hopping.

Failed to Protect, Tried to Run

Gleason-Mitchell admitted witnessing the abuse but did nothing, prioritising her relationship with Jeff over her daughter’s safety. Jeff denied all charges, claiming Isabella hurt herself.

Jeff’s phone searches for flights to Scotland and Amsterdam suggested plans to flee. The couple was eventually arrested on July 1, 2023, after a tip-off from a friend.

Justice Served – But No Sentence Can Heal This Tragedy

“The murder of any child is the worst crime imaginable. No sentence will ever be long enough, but the court has imposed the most severe penalties deemed appropriate,” said Detective Chief Inspector Craig Powell.

The judge condemned Jeff’s actions as “monstrous” and called Gleason-Mitchell “weak and spineless” for failing to protect Isabella.

The investigation team were praised for their thorough work, while Isabella’s family have maintained dignity throughout this devastating ordeal.
