Hundreds of drivers have been left stranded for more than two hours trying to access the Port of Dover on Boxing Day, as gridlock brought the town to a standstill.

A reported “go-slow” operation by border officials has caused significant delays, with drivers enduring wait times exceeding 120 minutes at border control.

Frustrated motorists expressed their anger by repeatedly sounding their horns just after 1:15 pm., voicing dissatisfaction with what many described as a lack of organization at one of the UK’s busiest ports.

A driver stuck in the gridlock shared their frustration:
“It’s complete chaos. We’ve been stuck here for hours with no updates, and the situation just seems to get worse. It’s unacceptable.”
Local roads leading to the port are heavily congested, compounding the issues for both travelers and residents of Dover. Emergency services and traffic management teams are reportedly working to ease the disruption, but progress has been slow.

Authorities have advised drivers to avoid the area if possible and to prepare for extended delays. Updates are expected as officials work to resolve the situation.

The Port of Dover has yet to comment on the cause of the delays, but many are calling for immediate action to improve the flow of traffic and reduce frustration for holiday travellers.
