Yellow Weather Warning Issued for Snow Across Kent

A yellow weather warning for heavy snow has been issued for Kent, with potential disruption expected over the weekend. The warning is in effect from Saturday, 4 January, to Monday, 6 January.

Met Office Warning

The Met Office has cautioned that the incoming snow could cause:

  • Power cuts.
  • Travel delays on roads, railways, and air services.
  • A slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off by the snow.

The weather system is expected to bring rain, followed by snowfall, which may quickly turn back into rain in southern regions.

Snowfall Predictions

The areas most at risk of disruption include parts of the Midlands, Wales, and northern England, where snowfall could reach:

  • 5cm or more in many areas.
  • Up to 20-30cm on higher ground.

In Kent, any snow that falls is expected to be short-lived, with a return to rain forecasted for most parts of the county.

Uncertainty and Updates

Forecasters have noted some uncertainty about how far the snow will spread and how long it will last. The Met Office has advised that the alert may change as the weekend approaches, depending on updated weather data.

Current Weather Conditions

Kent is already experiencing very strong winds of up to 75mph today (1 January), with a yellow wind warning in place until 3 PM.

Residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and prepare for potential disruptions over the weekend. For the latest forecasts and advice, visit the Met Office website or follow updates on their social media channels.
