Tragic Crash Claims Life of Amazon Delivery Driver at Kent Level Crossing

A young delivery driver has died after his Amazon van was hit by a train at a notorious rural crossing near Teynham. Brandon Hatcher, 23, from Ashford, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene on Sunday afternoon.

Fatal Collision at Bax Crossing

The horror unfolded just after 12.45pm on Sunday, July 13, at Bax Crossing in Tonge. Brandon’s vehicle was struck by an oncoming train at the level crossing, which had recently been the focus of safety upgrades following several near misses.

Safety Concerns and Ongoing Investigation

Bax Crossing has long been a source of worry. Despite new safety measures installed in March 2024, this devastating accident shows dangers remain. British Transport Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has launched a preliminary examination and investigators have visited the site.

Amazon and Community Pay Tribute

“This is a terrible incident. Our thoughts and sympathies are with the driver’s family. We are cooperating fully with the police and delivery partner during their investigation,” Amazon said in a statement.

Floral tributes have poured in near the crossing. Friends remember Brandon fondly, with one tribute reading: “Fly high, big fella. You’ll forever be in our hearts.”

Support for the Family

Those wishing to support Brandon’s family can donate via a JustGiving page set up by family friend Elena Santandreu Almagro.
