Prison Horror: Inmate Admits Brutal Attacks But Denies Attempted Murders

Violent Prisoner Faces 20 Charges at Old Bailey

Aklakar Rahman, 38, has confessed to multiple assaults with homemade weapons but fiercely denies trying to murder five prison officers. The dangerous inmate is on trial for a string of violent incidents at two high-security jails — HMP Swaleside in Kent and HMP Belmarsh in South London — during September and October 2022.

Shocking Assaults Using Sharpened Plastic Weapons

Rahman attacked prison staff with sharpened plastic spoons and homemade blades while spitting venomous threats against non-Muslims. On Friday, he admitted to five counts of attempted wounding, six assaults on emergency workers, and possession of makeshift weapons in jail.

However, he stuck to his guns, denying five counts of attempted murder and possession of a bladed article inside prison.

Pattern of Violence: A Life Sentence Already Behind Bars

The court was told Rahman is already serving a life sentence for three attempted murders and grievous bodily harm. Prosecutor Alistair Richardson labelled him a “highly dangerous man” who calls prison officers “kuffar,” a hateful slur for non-Muslims.

On September 23, 2022, while being escorted to the shower at Swaleside’s segregation unit, Rahman launched a brutal attack:

  • Punched one officer.
  • Stabbed another in the forehead with a pen.
  • Hit a third officer in the stomach.
  • Stamped on a fourth officer’s foot.

He even tried to stab an officer in the neck while guards wrestled him down.

Transferred to Belmarsh, Rahman struck again in October 2022, stabbing one officer in the head and neck, and cutting two others during a violent struggle. He was caught with a sharpened plastic spoon.

Trial Ongoing: Denials Continue

Under intense cross-examination, Rahman admitted some offences but denies the attempted murders, with his defense claiming the attacks were not pre-planned kill attempts.

The trial rumbles on as jurors weigh the chilling evidence. This case highlights the relentless violence behind prison walls and the huge risks staff take when policing Britain’s deadliest inmates.
