Tributes Flood In for ‘Kind Soul’ Claire

Claire taught adult nursing at the University of Plymouth and was remembered as a “caring, inspirational lady” with a “beautiful soul.” Hundreds of tributes have poured in on social media from students and colleagues, praising her exceptional teaching and unwavering support.

“Claire was my personal tutor at uni and helped me through some really tough times. She was a beautiful, kind, amazing woman. What a waste of a life. Sending love to her family and friends. RIP angel.”

“You are a ray of sunshine now dimmed across the whole health faculty at Plymouth University,” wrote another former student.

Claire’s colleagues called her “an absolute marvellous lecturer” and “the kindest soul” who will be sorely missed.

From Cardiac Nurse to University Lecturer

Claire’s career began as a cardiac care nurse at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. She advanced to senior cardiac research nurse and trial coordinator before joining the University of Plymouth. There, she became a lecturer and served as Associate Head of School for Internationalisation.

Beyond work, Claire was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her family is devastated by the tragic loss.

Husband Arrested in Murder Probe

Police launched a manhunt after Claire’s death, arresting 53-year-old Paul Anthony Butler, her husband, in Liskeard on January 23.

Devon and Cornwall Police have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) because of prior contact with the victim. The IOPC will decide if an official investigation is warranted.

As Plymouth mourns, Claire Butler is remembered for her kindness, dedication, and the huge impact she made on all who knew her.
