The driver involved in a tragic crash that killed two eight-year-old girls at a Wimbledon school has been re-arrested following the reopening of the investigation. The incident occurred on 6 July 2023 when a Land Rover Defender crashed through a fence and collided with a building at The Study Preparatory School in Camp Road, Wimbledon, killing Nuria Sajjad and Selena Lau.
A 48-year-old woman, initially arrested at the scene, had the charges dropped, but concerns raised by the families of the victims led to a review of the investigation. As a result, she was re-arrested on 28 January 2025, now on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She remains in custody while further inquiries continue.
The Specialist Crime Review Group (SCRG) conducted the review, which identified additional lines of enquiry requiring further investigation. In response to this development, Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford, who is now overseeing the case, has appealed to anyone who might have witnessed the crash or seen the distinctive gold Land Rover Defender in the area before the incident to come forward.
The families of the victims, in a statement, expressed their support for the investigation’s reopening, emphasizing their desire for the full truth to be uncovered. “It is important that this investigation runs its course unhindered,” they stated.
The Metropolitan Police are urging anyone who was in the area at the time, particularly those who were at the local golf course or driving near the school, to provide any information that may help the investigation.
