Armed Police Car Crashes in Ilford During Firearms Response
Crash Rocks Horns Road
A dramatic collision involving a police armed response vehicle and another car shook Ilford on Thursday night, January 23, 2025. The smash happened around 9:30pm on Horns Road, sparking a major emergency response.
Officers arrived swiftly, joined by the London Ambulance Service and the Fire Brigade to manage the scene.
Injuries Reported, But Officers Unharmed
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed the driver of the other car, a man, was rushed to hospital with injuries. Thankfully, the police officers inside the armed response vehicle escaped unharmed and didn’t need hospital treatment.
Not a Police Chase – But Questions Remain
The police vehicle involved was responding to a firearms incident and was armed, but officers stress this was not a police pursuit. The crash isn’t linked to any ongoing chase.
“Investigations are ongoing,” said a police rep, adding there’s no decision yet on whether the case will be referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Authorities are urging the public to hold fire on speculation while they probe the circumstances that led to the crash.
