Burglar Caught Red-Handed After Attacking Elderly Woman in Home Invasion

Kyle Thatcher went on a terrifying spree, breaking into three homes in Staple and River between April 7 and April 20, 2022. His final target was a woman in her 80s, whom he violently knocked to the ground after stealing her jewellery — leaving her with a head injury.

Smash-and-Grab Spree Across Kent

  • April 7: Thatcher’s first burglary struck in Staple. Owners returned to find a smashed window, ransacked rooms, missing jewellery, and a stolen duvet.
  • April 8: A dog walker found the blood-stained duvet dumped in Chalkpit Lane woodland and tipped off police.
  • April 15: Another burglary on London Road, River. Forced doors, stolen designer clothing, jewellery, and cash.
  • April 20: During his third break-in, Thatcher was caught in the act by an elderly resident. He shoved her aside as he made off with her valuables.

High-Tech Evidence Nails the Burglar

Police arrested the 30-year-old from Folkestone Road, dover/" title="Dover" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Dover, on April 27, following an intense investigation by the Chief Constable’s Crime Squad. They seized Thatcher’s phone, which placed him near all three crime scenes. The bloody duvet also linked him directly through DNA evidence.

Jail Time for Relentless Burglar

Thatcher pleaded guilty at Canterbury Crown Court on May 30, 2022, and was sentenced to 32 months behind bars.
