Southwark Shooting Sees Two Gangsters Locked Up for Years

London’s battle against gang violence scored a big win as two men were slammed with hefty prison sentences following a brazen Southwark shooting. The attack, which saw a gun fired from an e-scooter, left a man seriously wounded and rocked the local community.

Two Sentenced at Old Bailey

Kemar Edwards, 25, from Plumstead, and Amari Bailey, 23, from Peckham, were sentenced at the Old Bailey on January 29. Both were found guilty of Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent. Edwards also faced charges for firearm possession.

  • Edwards: 18 years behind bars plus 3 years on extended licence.
  • Bailey: 12 years in prison plus 3 years extended licence.

The tough sentences reflect the cold, calculated nature of the attack and the threat these gangs pose to public safety.

The Attack That Shook Walworth

The shooting happened on June 24, 2023, in Bradenham Close, Walworth. The victim, a 24-year-old man, was identified as a rival gang member by Bailey, who then teamed up with Edwards. Edwards sped by on an e-scooter and fired three shots, hitting the victim in the arm and knee.

Though the gangsters tried to conceal their identities—Edwards in a balaclava and Bailey hiding behind a motorbike helmet—CCTV and sharp police work nailed them.

Police Praise Public for Crucial Help

“The evidence from members of the public who reported hearing the shots was vital, especially since the shooting happened in a CCTV blind spot,” said Detective Constable John Davis of the Trident South Specialist Crime Command.

This case sends a clear message: London’s gangs will be hunted down, exposed, and punished.
