New Evidence Emerges Following Appeal in Ian Airlie Investigation

Detectives investigating the death of 48-year-old Ian Airlie have received new evidence following a media appeal for information, shedding light on the circumstances of his fatal fall.

On Wednesday, 22 January, officers were alerted to additional CCTV footage from Waterloo Station, which was thoroughly reviewed by investigators.

Following a detailed examination, detectives have confirmed that Mr. Airlie accidentally fell down an escalator at the station. Importantly, the footage shows no evidence of foul play, ruling out previous concerns that he may have been pushed.

Police Statement

Detective Inspector Chris Rogers, leading the investigation, stated:

“This new evidence means we have been able to rule out that Mr. Airlie was pushed. His fall down the escalator was a very sad and unfortunate accident.

“His death, however, remains unexplained, and we will continue to investigate all avenues until we can build a full picture.

“We continue to offer support to Mr. Airlie’s family. They have been updated by officers, and we request that they receive privacy at this difficult time.”

Investigation Continues

A post-mortem examination conducted on Tuesday, 29 October 2024, was inconclusive, and officers are now awaiting the results of further tests to establish a clearer cause of death.
