EssexPolice have arrested a suspect following a serious assault in Chelmsford that left a man fighting for his life.

Police Response Leads to Arrest

On Wednesday evening, February 12, 2025, emergency services rushed to Meadgate Avenue in Chelmsford following reports of a serious assault. Police officers arrived at the scene within seven minutes of the initial call at 7:10 PM, demonstrating their commitment to public safety.

 

Victim’s Condition Stabilises

The victim, who sustained life-threatening injuries, was airlifted to hospital by the East of England Air Ambulance. Medical professionals at the scene provided crucial immediate care, and following treatment, the victim’s condition has improved significantly. While still hospitalised, their injuries are no longer considered life-threatening.

Detective Inspector Andy Drake, leading the investigation, said “This has been an incredibly fast-moving investigation. A significant amount of work has already been completed at the scene, and our enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances of Wednesday evening’s events.”

Suspect in Custody

In a remarkable display of efficient policing, officers arrested a 20-year-old man from Great Baddow on suspicion of attempted murder within 45 minutes of arriving at the scene. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
