A major incident has been declared in Godstone, Surrey, following the development of a large sinkhole, prompting emergency response teams to take urgent action.
The situation is now being coordinated by the Surrey Local Resilience Forum, with Surrey County Council leading the emergency response alongside police, fire services, utility companies, and highways authorities.
Public Safety and Ongoing Investigations
Carl Bussey, Surrey County Council Assistant Director for Safer Communities, who is also Chair of the Strategic Coordination Group for the incident, provided an update on the response:
“We are working together with emergency services and utility companies, as well as our highways colleagues and Tandridge District Council, to protect the public and property in the area.
Investigations are continuing to make the area safe and to repair utilities, and we ask that people remain away from the vicinity while that important work is ongoing. We will keep people updated as the situation develops.”
