Thousands Raised for Dad Fighting for Life After Horror A249 Crash
Serious Collision Near Chalky Lane Shuts A249
Adam Fill, a devoted father of two from Sittingbourne, is clinging to life after a serious crash on the A249 on Tuesday night (February 25). A silver Land Rover Discovery smashed into a black BMW 1 Series near the Chalky Lane junction, leaving Adam, a passenger in the BMW, trapped in the wreckage.
Emergency services rushed to the scene. Adam had to be cut free before being airlifted to King’s College Hospital in London with multiple fractures and severe swelling. The A249’s northbound carriageway was closed for nearly nine hours between the M20 near Maidstone and the M2 at Stockbury as police investigated.
Wife Describes Heartbreaking Ordeal
Adam’s wife, Abbie Fill, shared the emotional toll of the crash.
“His friend, the driver, called me—he managed to walk out of the car relatively injury-free,” she said. “I rushed to the scene but wasn’t allowed near. Later, I went with Adam to hospital.”
Doctors have placed Adam in medically induced sedation to manage pain while they figure out the complex surgery needed. “They’re still trying to work out how to operate safely,” Abbie explained. Brain injury assessments are limited due to his serious leg injuries.
‘Selfless and Fun’ Dad Loved by All
Adam and Abbie, together for 18 years and married for nine, live in Kemsley with their children Poppy, 6, and Arlo, 3. Abbie painted a picture of a selfless family man who put his loved ones first.
“He never bought himself anything, wearing the same trainers until they had holes. Every spare penny went on family trips,” she said.
A motorsport fanatic, Adam works as a mechanic for a British touring car team and has raced worldwide. “If this career ends, it would devastate all of us,” Abbie added.
Community Rallies as Police Probe Crash
Kent Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage to help uncover the cause. Anyone with information should call 01622 798538 or email [email protected], quoting reference XX/HG/013/25.
Meanwhile, a fundraiser is running to support the Fill family. More than £17,000 has been raised towards an £18,000 target. With Adam as the main breadwinner, the financial uncertainty weighs heavily on Abbie.
“Knowing everything else is covered will make a massive difference to him,” Abbie said. “When Adam wakes up, I can tell him, ‘You’re okay, let’s just focus on you’—and that means everything.”
