A manhunt remains ongoing for the killer of 41-year-old Jinming Zhang, who was brutally murdered in a flat in Digbeth, Birmingham, on 9 February 2022.
The Crime Scene
Zhang was found stabbed multiple times in what police have described as a frenzied attack. Evidence suggests that he fought back, and in the struggle, the suspect is believed to have lost blood.
The flat was later identified as a brothel, and investigators initially suspected robbery as a motive after finding drawers pulled open.

The only known witness, a young Chinese woman, survived by hiding from the killer.
The Suspect & Investigation
The suspect has been described as:
- A Black man
- Between 5ft 2in (1.6m) and 5ft 5in (1.7m) tall
- Slim build
- Distinctive walking pattern, as revealed by CCTV footage
A trail of blood was found leading away from the crime scene, and extensive CCTV analysis was conducted to trace the killer’s escape route.
Forensic teams recovered a DNA sample from the suspect, but there was no match in the national database. Despite advancements in DNA analysis and familial searches, the killer remains unidentified.
