59-Year-Old Man Arrested Over Deadly North Sea Ship Crash

Criminal Probe Launched After Fatal Collision

A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter following a catastrophic collision between two vessels in the North Sea, police confirmed today.

Humberside Police revealed they have launched a full criminal investigation into the deadly maritime incident, which happened off the coast of East Yorkshire on Monday, 10 March.

Fire Rages On, Crew Member Still Missing

The cargo ship Solong remains engulfed in flames after smashing into the oil tanker Stena Immaculate. While the fire on the Stena Immaculate has been put out, the blaze on the Solong continued through the night and into Tuesday.

Tragically, one crew member from the Solong is still missing. A UK government minister said the “working assumption is that they have died.”

Toxic Cargo Rumours Denied

Initial reports sparked fears that the Solong was carrying sodium cyanide, a deadly chemical, raising concerns over an environmental disaster. However, the ship’s owners quickly denied this, confirming the vessel was not carrying sodium cyanide at the time, only four empty containers that previously held the substance.

Manslaughter Arrest Shows Serious Turn

Police are now probing whether negligence caused the fatal crash. While the identity and role of the arrested man remain under wraps, the arrest signals a major development in the investigation.

Aerial Shots Reveal Devastation

Fresh aerial footage reveals the full extent of the wreckage. The Solong lies heavily charred with flames still flickering, while the Stena Immaculate shows serious hull damage but no active fire.

Maritime safety officials are assessing the risk of either ship sinking and monitoring the environmental impact of the fire and wreckage.

Calls Grow for Maritime Safety Overhaul

The disaster has reignited urgent calls for a comprehensive review of safety protocols in busy shipping lanes, particularly across the North Sea – one of the planet’s busiest maritime highways.
