Brighton Council Hands Out £15,000 to Boost BME Communities
Brighton & Hove City Council has rolled out £15,000 in grants to nine local community groups. The cash comes from the BME Engagement Fund, launched in 2020 to improve wellbeing and fairness for Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) residents in the city.
Cash Boosts Vital Local Projects
Groups could apply for up to £2,000 each to cover activities and running costs. Among the winners, a local Japanese community group will use the funding to offer language lessons and cultural workshops. Meanwhile, A Seat At The Table will focus on families and children with disabilities, providing vital support for special educational needs and wellbeing sessions.
Funding Open to Small Local Groups
This fund is part of the council’s larger Communities Fund, designed for voluntary and not-for-profit groups earning under £20,000 a year. Applications open from April to October, with another round focused specifically on BME groups set for later in the year.
Building Stronger, Fairer Communities
The council hopes the grants will fuel projects that promote equality and enhance wellbeing, helping to build stronger and more resilient BME communities across Brighton and Hove.
