Drivers Warned of Dartford Crossing Overnight Tunnel Closures This Weekend

Motorists planning to use the Dartford Crossing this weekend are being urged to prepare for overnight tunnel closures as essential maintenance works are scheduled to take place.

Sections of the A282 northbound, which connects Dartford in Kent to Thurrock in Essex via the crossing, will be closed between Friday, March 14, and Monday, March 17, with diversions in place via National Highways roads.

Although the closures were not initially listed earlier this week, updated information now confirms that both the west and east tunnels will be closed on different nights to allow maintenance crews to carry out vital infrastructure works.

Tunnel Closure Schedule:

  • Friday, March 14 – Saturday, March 15
    • A282 Northbound West Tunnel closure
    • Carriageway and slip road closed for tunnel works from 9pm to 6am
    • Diversion via National Highways roads
  • Saturday, March 15 – Sunday, March 16
    • A282 Northbound West Tunnel closure
    • Tunnel closed from 10pm to 5am for maintenance
    • Diversion via National Highways network
  • Sunday, March 16 – Monday, March 17
    • A282 Northbound East Tunnel closure
    • Tunnel closed from 10pm to 5am for maintenance
    • Diversion via National Highways network

Motorists Advised to Plan Ahead

Drivers are being advised to plan ahead to avoid delays, particularly those travelling late at night or in the early hours of the morning.

The Dartford Crossing is a key transport route over the River Thames, serving thousands of vehicles daily and forming a crucial part of the wider M25 orbital route.

Officials have stated that the closures are necessary for essential maintenance, although schedules may be subject to change depending on weather conditions or operational requirements.

Motorists are encouraged to check live travel updates via National Highways and local traffic information services before setting out on their journeys.
