Underground Bunker Fire in Maidstone Prompts Major Emergency Response

A significant emergency response was launched on Sunday afternoon following a fire in an underground bunker at Fullingpits Wood, Maidstone.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service received reports of the blaze at 1:59pm and swiftly dispatched six fire engines, along with a technical rescue unit, to tackle the incident.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus worked to extinguish the flames, using positive pressure ventilation fans to clear smoke from the enclosed space.

Two People Treated by Paramedics

Two individuals were assessed at the scene and passed into the care of South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb). Their condition has not been disclosed.

Cause of Fire Unknown

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and fire crews remained on site for several hours to ensure the area was fully safe and ventilated.

Kent Police also attended to support the operation and secure the area during the incident.

Authorities have not yet confirmed what the underground bunker was being used for at the time of the fire.

Residents are advised to avoid the area while emergency services complete their work.
